Considered by some critic near to Surrealism, Tommaso Landolfi (1908-1979) is regarded as one of the most important Italian writers of the XXth Century, mainly for his creative, refined and innovative use of the language that draws from his experience as a German and Russian language translator.
His works, mainly short stories and novels but also poems and theatrical pieces, are in the speculative fiction genre, usually with grotesque elements. For this reason Italo Calvino resembled Landolfi work to Barbey d'Aurevilly and Villiers de l'Isle-Adam.
This publication, devised and written by Landolfi's daughter Idolina and completed by Giovanni Maccari after her death, retraces and narrates the writer 's biography, through his relationships with the publishers of his works.
A second volume includes the first complete bibliography of the works by and on Tommaso Landolfi. More information on chronology, circulation and sales, translations, adaptations for cinema or theatre are included in the appendix.
